Obon as an adult

Before we know it, it's already Obon season.

When I was a child, Obon was strongly associated with summer vacation, and I remember spending time with relatives, visiting graves, and generally having a slightly different experience than usual.

I didn't think about it that deeply at the time, but looking back now, that unique atmosphere might have been part of what made it feel like summer.

Now that I'm an adult, I don't do anything special every year just because it's Obon.

Rather recently,

The train is less crowded than usual.

The town is a little quiet.

I feel like I often get the Obon feeling in places like that.

When a place that's usually crowded is a little calmer, or when you can get a seat during your usual commute,

Oh, so it's Obon holiday season for everyone?

And that's when you finally realize it.

By the way, THE SALON will be open as usual during the Obon holiday.

Even as the whole town takes on a slightly more relaxed atmosphere, we welcome you as always.

While everyone else is in holiday mode, we're working as usual.

It's a slightly strange feeling, but perhaps being able to work while experiencing a different atmosphere in the city than usual is something unique to this time of year.

At THE SALON, we hear more and more people talking about travel and going back to their hometowns around this time of year, and we can feel the changing seasons through our conversations with our customers.

When I was a child, I looked forward to summer vacation itself, but as an adult, I've come to appreciate the changing seasons through these small changes.

THE SALON will remain open as usual during the Obon period, and we look forward to welcoming everyone who visits us.
